Sudan’s Transitional Government and Rebel Factions Agree to Short Truce After Weeks of Conflict

In Sudan, the transitional government and key rebel factions have reached a temporary ceasefire agreement after weeks of intense clashes in and around the capital Khartoum, bringing a brief pause to one of Africa’s most severe humanitarian crises. The truce, facilitated by regional mediators, aims to allow safe passage for civilians and the delivery of critical aid supplies to besieged communities. International humanitarian organisations welcomed the development, saying that uninterrupted access is urgently needed to address severe shortages of food, clean water, and medical care. Despite the fragile nature of the truce, officials emphasised that maintaining the pause in fighting is essential to build confidence and expand negotiations toward a more sustainable peace process.
